An N.Y.U Study Gone Wrong, and a Top Researcher Dismissed
By: Benedict Carey www.nytimes.com/2016/06/28/health/nyu-cannabis-ptsd-psychiatry.html?emc+eta1&_r=0 Almost 70 years after the publication of the Nuremberg Code, ethical transgressions continue to plague medical research. The participation of human subjects in scientific research is essential in order for medicine to advance. However, when we fail to respect the dignity of those who participate in this type of research, we jeopardize more than just the progress of medical science; we threaten developments in human rights that have helped shape the evolution of humanistic medical practice. How can we emphasize the absolute necessity of placing the rights of the individual ahead of the promise of scientific progress?

It's hard to believe that after all we have seen in the past century, these types of violations in human subject research ethics are still occurring at major research institutions! What can be done to try and encourage people to act in an ethical manner?
